Grief as Renowned South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.

The motive of the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.

Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a location close to the Carlton Centre.

"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.

Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what resembled a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but fell down across the street.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were found at the scene.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to come forward.

"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and police have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," remarked an authority figure.
