Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now in development.
