Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United only half a year following leading derogatory taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has signed a deal with the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Previous History Between Bamford and the Manager
The pair had history before Leeds won promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”
