Severe Precipitation Exacerbate Conditions for Displaced Palestinians in Gaza, Officials Warn
Persistent rains over the past week have intensified the precarious situation of the vast number of displaced residents in the Gaza Strip, according to aid agencies.
"Terrible" Night Poses Grave Dangers
A representative described the recent storm as "awful", with downpours so intense that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.
"These conditions was truly horrendous for the residents. The heavy rains were so powerful... And the winds were so powerful," stated the representative.
Authorities voice grave worry that young ones sheltering in tents in wet attire will succumb to hypothermia and other sicknesses.
Deaths and Significant Damage
Health authorities have confirmed that one baby has died from hypothermia and no fewer than 11 other people have died in structural failures triggered by the severe weather.
Further statements indicate a higher fatality count. Authorities said that numerous structures had totally fallen and many others had collapsed partially.
- Roughly 55,000 families affected by rains.
- More than 40 designated shelters severely flooded.
- Many people compelled to find new shelter.
Assistance Operations Considered Insufficient
Groups have increased deliveries of shelter, blankets and clothes since the halt in hostilities started, but they emphasize there is remains not enough aid getting in.
"Agencies are working relentlessly to deliver that aid and to distribute it, but the size of the requirements is so enormous that we still have a great number of individuals and children who are really struggling every night," cautioned one representative.
Ongoing Concerns and Agreement Terms
The next stage of the truce involves arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the removal of personnel, and other provisions.
Aid organizations have underscored the need for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to respond to urgent and long-term requirements."
The conflict was initiated by an assault in late 2023. Following campaigns have led to a high number of lives lost in the territory, based on medical reports.
