The Reze Arc Movie Dominates the U.S. Cinema Earnings in Opening Weekend
Can Sony claim to have achieved another hit? In the wake of the triumph of the hit anime Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which earned more than $600 million at the box office, the new movie Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc has reached beyond the $100 million threshold internationally, attaining a global total of over $108 million in its opening frame. This feature outperformed the thriller Black Phone 2 (almost $13 million) in its sophomore frame in movie houses, as well as the film Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere featuring actor Jeremy Allen White ($9M).
Strong American and International Results
Directed by filmmaker Tatsuya Yoshihara, the movie is a direct continuation of Chainsaw Man’s first season. It brought in $18.2 million in the U.S. after a robust $5.2M Saturday and $4.5M Sunday take. Internationally, the MAPPA-produced feature added $14.7M across 46 global regions, pushing its worldwide total to $60.4 million through Sony distribution ($43.1M abroad, $18.2M stateside). The studio has not yet revealed its complete box office tally.
Benchmarks to Past Anime Hits
Specialist agency an industry expert noted in prior discussions, drawing parallels between the movie's expected results to the anime hit Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which grossed thirty-four million dollars in the North America in the year 2022 and started with a similar $18 million stateside. The new film's opening frame aligns with that marker, while its $108 million international sum presently stands just behind the earlier film's $166.6 million final run. Although it’s unlikely the Reze Arc movie will earn the box office of blockbuster the enormous hit Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, this is still a significant success for Sony.
Fan Engagement Campaigns Boost Performance
Along with its affiliate the anime streaming service Crunchyroll have skillfully used community involvement to propel their supremacy at the cinema for anime films.
