US President Trump has announced he is increasing tariffs on products imported from Canada after the region of the Ontario government ran an anti-tariff commercial including late President Reagan.

In a online update on Saturday, the President described the advertisement a "fraud" and criticized Canada's authorities for not removing it before the baseball championship.

"Owing to their major distortion of the facts, and unfriendly action, I am increasing the duty on Canada by ten percent over and above what they are paying now," he stated.

Subsequent to Donald Trump on last Thursday ended trade talks with Canada, the Doug Ford stated he would remove the commercial.

The Province Reaction

Doug Ford the Premier announced on Friday that he would pause his territory's anti-import tax commercial series in the United States, advising journalists that he made the decision after talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney "to ensure commercial discussions can resume".

He added it would remain broadcast during the weekend, featuring games for the World Series, which involves the Toronto Blue Jays facing the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Trade Context

Canada is the exclusive G7 nation nation that has not achieved a deal with the America since Trump commenced trying to levy significant import taxes on items from primary commercial allies.

The United States has earlier imposed a 35 percent duty on all Canadian products - though many are excluded under an current free trade agreement. It has furthermore slapped targeted levies on Canadian products, featuring a 50% duty on metals and 25% on vehicles.

In his update, published while he was traveling to Southeast Asia, Donald Trump seemed to say he was imposing 10 percentage points to the existing tariffs.

75% of Canadian overseas sales are shipped to the America, and Ontario is the location of the bulk of Canada's car production.

Ronald Reagan Commercial Particulars

The commercial, which was sponsored by the provincial government, quotes former US President Ronald Reagan, a Republican and figure of conservative values, stating import taxes "hurt every American".

The advertisement uses clips from a 1987 broadcast that centered on international trade.

The Foundation, which is responsible for preserving the ex-president's legacy, had criticised the advertisement for using "selective" recordings and stated it distorted the former president's address. It further noted the Ontario government had not requested consent to use it.

Ongoing Tensions

In his post on social media on the weekend, Trump said that the advert should have been pulled down earlier.

"Their Commercial was to be removed IMMEDIATELY, but they let it run recently during the World Series, knowing that it was a FRAUD," Trump stated, while traveling to Southeast Asia.

Doug Ford had before promised to run the Reagan advert in all Republican-led region in the America.

Each of the President and Carney will be going to the Southeast Asian summit in the Malaysian nation, but Trump told journalists traveling with him aboard Air Force One that he does not have any "plan" of speaking with his Canadian PM during the visit.

In his update, Donald Trump also claimed Canadian officials of attempting to influence an upcoming US Supreme Court legal case which could terminate his entire tariff regime.

The lawsuit, to be reviewed by the American judiciary soon, will rule on whether the import taxes are constitutional.

On Thursday, the President further lashed out, claiming that the advert was designed to "tamper" with "the most significant legal case"

World Series Link

The Reagan commercial is not the only way that Ontario – location of the Toronto Blue Jays – is using the baseball championship as a platform to criticize Trump's import taxes.

In a video published on Friday, Ford and Gavin Newsom the Governor playfully made bets about which club would triumph the series.

The two leaders repeatedly joked about import taxes in the video, with Ford promising to deliver Gavin Newsom a container of Canadian syrup if the Los Angeles team win.

"The tariff might set me back a additional dollars at the frontier these days, but it'll be worth it," Ford said.

In answer, Newsom suggested Doug Ford to restart permitting US-made beverages to be available in Ontario liquor stores, and promised to deliver "the state's premium vino" if the Jays triumph.

They concluded their conversation each saying: "To a excellent baseball championship, and a tariff-free friendship between the region and the state."
